Kids Cafe

Not a Handout, but a Hand Up!
What is a Kids Cafe?
Kids Cafe is a nation-wide feeding program for school age children up to 18 from low-income families. We provide healthy nutritious meals at the cafe on Wednesday and Sunday, which includes nutrition education once a month, and other recreational & educational activities. KIds Cafe is sponsored by Feeding America, KY's Heartland, the nation's largest hunger-relief organization. They partner with NHCC to provide additional resources. Regular participants & their families also qualify for the annual Angel Party in December. Our newest addition is Fall Saturday Day Camp in October.
How it works?
We are currently serving children from low-income housing areas every week. Many of them are transported through a bus program. Once the children reach the church our volunteer staff prepares and serves the children a 4 course nutritional meal in a restaurant type setting. The children then participate in an hour long educational, recreational and/or fun activity.
How to get involved:
Volunteers: We need volunteers from working directly with the children during activities to food preparation, serving, set-up, and clean up. We also are in need of CDL drivers who are licensed to drive a school bus. To provide a safe environment for children & youth, application screening is required for adults 19 & over.
Contributions: The feeding program at NHCC has been in operation since the summer of 2007. Currently with our new partnership, our Kids Cafe is serving over 200 meals every week year round. The future expansion of this community program will be based solely on charitable contributions.
